ICD-10/5010 Readiness

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has mandated that ICD-10 codes be used for medical diagnosis and inpatient procedures on all claims for services provided on or after October 1, 2013. Additionally, in support of ICD-10, conversion of electronic healthcare transactions to ANSI X 12 Version 5010 is slated to be completed by December 31, 2011.

MedAssets has initiated work to implement ICD-10 and the Version 5010 conversion to support the new codes into all of our impacted solutions. Working closely with customers, partners and payors through comprehensive development efforts and stringent quality assurance testing, MedAssets tools will be fully functional and compliant on schedule with the HHS deadlines as follows.

Level I compliance - December 31, 2010

  • Level I compliance means "that a covered entity can demonstrably create and receive compliant transactions, resulting from the compliance of all design/build activities and internal testing. (ANSI 5010 external transaction testing for MedAssets customers began January 1, 2011, with ANSI 5010 end to end testing for customers beginning in April, 2011.)

Level II compliance - December 31, 2011

  • Level II compliance means "that a covered entity has completed end-to-end testing with each of its trading partners, and is able to operate in production mode with the new versions of the standards.
