Silver Cross Hospital, a 304-bed, not-for-profit, community hospital located in Joliet, IL, was recognized as a 100 Top Hospital® by Solucient for two consecutive years in 2004 and 2005 - an award that recognizes only 100 of over 5,000 hospitals throughout the United States that have achieved excellence in clinical outcomes, patient safety, operational efficiency, financial stability, and growth. Silver Cross Hospital is a data rich organization with a long history of data-based decision making and performance improvement.
Silver Cross was faced with the challenge of how to integrate clinical / quality data with financial data and present the end results in an easy to use and understandable format to a wide ranging end-user community. The end users include a cross section of the hospital including physicians, nurse managers, finance, and executives. The combined data set was required to support the CEO’s internal mandate to Improve Quality, Manage Costs, and Maximize Revenue. |

Specifically, Silver Cross sought to improve patient care by providing physicians with individualized performance reports in the areas of Disease Management, Quality Management, and Utilization Management. Additionally, Silver Cross desired to minimize lost revenue through reconciliation of actual to expected payments and model variations of contract terms across payors to predict net revenue effects. The information needed to cover the Contract Modeling and Management, Cost Development and Management, and Cost Variance Analysis. |
